Vendor Visit! PRC-Saltillo

PRC-Saltillo has been dedicated to transforming the lives of people with communication difficulties for over three decades. The company's commitment to quality, innovation, and customer-centricity has solidified its position as a trailblazer in the AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) industry.  Amanda Rains, the Tennessee vendor representative, met with our staff this month to demonstrate the current line of products.

PRC-Saltillo's product line offers a wide range of communication solutions, each designed to cater to specific needs and preferences. All PRC-Saltillo hardware comes with a five-year warranty which is wonderful considering insurance will often not fund AAC devices more often than that. There is also an additional add-on warranty which covers even more scenarios. Some of the key products we explored include:

1. Accent Series: Windows based device that boasts a range of access methods (including eye gaze) and vocabulary options, making it versatile for different users. Accent devices come in three different screen sizes, 8, 10, and 14 inches. The following communication software can be accessed via Accent devices: Unity, LAMP Words for Life, CoreScanner, UNIDAD, Essence, and Wordpower.

2. NovaChat Series: These android based speech-generating devices come in 10-, 8-, and 5-inch screens. The smaller sizes can be beneficial for students who are active and love to move! The following software can be accessed via the NovaChat hardware: WordPower® Suite (20, 25 Touch & Scan, 42 Basic, 42, 60 Basic, 60, 80, 108 with Keyboard, and 140 Scan & Touch); myCore; VocabPC; MultiChat 15; myQuickChat, 4 Basic; Spelling; Communication Journey: Aphasia; Basic Scan; and Intermediate Scan. Some vocabulary files are also available in Spanish.

3. Via Series: These devices are iOS based and come in two sizes, mini and pro. The following software is available on Via devices: Touchchat with Wordpower, LAMP Words for Life, and Dialogue AAC.

4. Accessories: Alongside their speech generating devices, PRC-Saltillo also have a range of accessories for their devices. Some time was spent exploring the VersaWrap which is an iPad case which makes the iPad look more like a dedicated device. There is also an additional speaker you can add to the case to ensure appropriate volume in the classroom or elsewhere.
