AAC Friendly Classroom

Teachers have the huge responsibility of creating an equitable learning environment. Luckily, they are up to the challenge. From adapting their teaching to fit different learning styles to rearranging their classrooms to lessen the impact of visual impairments, teachers seem to find a way to operate in their student’s best interest. As a result, more students with complex communication needs are entering equitable learning environments that integrate and support their language develop through AAC. If you want to better support your students with complex communication needs, checkout this infographic designed by SLP graduate student, Shayla Gaffney, that details how to create a more AAC friendly classroom environment. It provides background information about this population of students and strategies to support them in the classroom setting.  prAACticalaac.org is also a great resource for AAC content. Remember, the best learning environment is one that is welcoming to all students who occupy it.
